Kids on the Climb- The Cataracs

The Cataracs name had been floating around my mind since I first heard Blueberry Afghani when I was listening to the Pack and The Team heavy a long time ago, and got brought back into my realm of thought when the Getyourswagup.com design team was putting together designs for CMJ events this fall, which included Label Indie Pop’s showcase with The Cataracs at one of our favorite NYC nightclubs.
Recently I’d been trying out how to make a proper edit of their track Fall in Love (with Ya Boi) to fit in the upcoming EConfessions mix cd. Been loving everything Ya Boi has been doing taking the electro style and getting some smooth California rich kid raps over and The Cataracs track is no exception. When their name came up this week in NYC, I knew I had to give them some coverage because the kids are everywhere.
In today’s music world, it seems you have to do a million things to get your marketing in line, and these kids are no exception. Backed by Indie-Pop (Dev & The Pack as their other notable artists) and their marketing genius, The Cataracs have done everything necessary to buzz and buzz hard.
Task one, take a single and give it a major mainstream feature… “Club Love” with E40
Task two, get relevant on the blogs with some hot material and release a dope video…

Task three, stay blog and dancefloor relevant with hot electro remixes… Enter Proper Villian and Nick Catchdubs (Fools Gold Owner w/ Atrak) remix…
Task four, get relevant in your hometown by collaborating with your hometown hero… “Fall in Love” w/ Ya Boi
Task five, get on the radio… Enter their acoustic cover of “Ice Cream Paint Job”.
Task six… document everything on youtube.

Task seven… Start producing bangers for other bubbling acts… and toss your label mates on the track. Far East Movements “Like a G6″
And for good measure, re-release some of your old bay area bangers for the youth
They’ve still got a long ways to grow, but I’ll be damned if they’re not starting off on the right foot.
