I’ve been away, and it’s still May so I guess it’s technically still Spring; if you’re not in New York, then it doesn’t matter how late this is because you’re lagging behind anyway. And if you’re in Berlin, London, the island, Paris, a Flux Capcitator, then reading this doesn’t matter since you’re already far ahead. MEN HAIR Fashionising says, “All haircuts are cyclical, and in recent years have gradually modernised the looks of the 20th Century and planted them firmly in the 21st.” It’s true. Englishmen usually almost always have it right, twisting school boy cuts with rough edges. Undercuts are total sexual chocolate and are sort of like the new mullet: business in the front, party in the back. ELEMENT In honor of Broseidon, King of the Brocean, the Spring element for men is Bromine. Bromine(from Greek: βρῶμος, brómos, meaning “stench [of he-goats]“) is is the only nonmetallic element that is a liquid at room temperature and is found often in gasoline, pesticides, soft drinks and flame retardants: it’s an element of kings and of bros. If you’re ever in the need of some Decabromodiphenyl ether to destroy the environment or your liver, you have Bromine to thank. WHO TO LOVE/WHO TO DISLIKE Travic McCoy tried to fight some kids at a skatepark one of my good friends and his crew frequents in Hollywood. The DJ Epidemic loves kittens. Travis McCoy is an awful DJ. The DJ Epidemic rules the vinyl underground. Katy Perry dumped Travis McCoy for a reason. The DJ Epidemic is nice to his mom. It’s obvious who’s to love in this situation, right? READY-TO-WEAR The suits, perforation, masculine draping, and twists on classic shapes for Spring are stunning. No homo. 1.) GIVENCHY | If you like: Voldemort, Miuccia Prada, stunnin’ 2.) GUCCI | If you like: Classic cars, Neil Young, ecstacy 3.) ANN DEMEULEMEESTER | If you like: The 3 Ninjas, Berlin, karate 4.) DIOR HOMME | If you like: the Sahara Desert, collecting shoes, those kids who dance on the subway ACCESSORY COMEBACK Remember how in elementary school, you’d beat another kid up if he had a ...
If you’re above 30, nah actually if you’re above 20, don’t even watch what’s below. Been working on a much longer Lil B post, which he deserves, because he is the new formula for success, and the future of the music industry. Instead of posting, “Look Like Jesus” “Pretty Boy” or some other intro, I thought we’d start with some more underground tracks.
This Excites Me and this is The Best Thing Ever
Tuesday we performed at a media mixer at NY hotspot Polar Lounge, before galavanting over to Rondo briefly and then disappearing into a void of party induced haze somewhere in the financial district. Show went well, awkward sound for performing, but you can’t expect much from a hotel lounge, and it was a small enough place that energy could take over. Got more people asking about Rhonda than Slave, which was an interesting turn of events. Polar was quite the impressive space, my first time attending, the VIP rooms are “caves” playing with the polar theme, and beautifully designed and laid out for a nice intimate night with whoever you might meet at the Marcel Hotel. Tonight the soundtrack featured a showcase of the club’s residents, all of whom impressed me, DJ Kalkutta played Lil Boots, Francesco Civetta played Die Antwoord (really, he played Die Antwoord) and DJ Equal played a bevy of bangers including “I Need a Dollar” which made me a happy happy man. Most impressive for the night was the cocktail list. NY has cushioned me for a $20 cocktail, every night I go out there seems to be two options “We’re gonna do this one cheap, and its gonna involve 40′s and plastic bottles of vodka”, or “someone’, probably not me, is going to spend a ludicrous sum of money tonight”. In Arizona getting a $14 vodka redbull isn’t uncommon so seeing a $17 cocktail at Polar isn’t an afront to my beliefs as a human any longer. For the well-to-do nightlife attendee these are quite worth the price. The first one I knocked down was the “Operation Highjump” a martini with white grape juice and icelandic vodka, and it was decent but I wasn’t about to drink them all night, so I went for something more manly and ended up with “The Endurance” with Old Overholt Rye whiskey and ended up drinking two of those, and was very buzzed by the end. The Polar theme continued as they have ice cubes called “glaciers” that are just that, big, healthy cubes. Lastly came the Prime Meridian, ...
MIA’s born free video has a background. The director’s previous video is in my mind one of if not the best music video ever made, perfectly pairing the raw emotion of one of the worlds biggest bands with shocking footage to accompany it’s ideals. The most intense part to me is the gang’s jackets bearing Justice’s logo… Some other vids by the film crew that spawned this enigma. I was originally going to post the Arizona rapper’s SB1070 video and compare it to that 8 mc french video, but it just wasn’t worth it.
Been reading a ton of news on the Hamptons and what spots are going to be hot… Boathouse is assuredly in the top tier.
When I first heard about A-Trak I was maybe 15-16? There was a free Old Bay (doesn’t sound right but whatever) sandals catalog that my mom picked because it had something in it about DJs and I had begged for turntables until she brought one home from the thrift store (Technics SLB-2 WHATTUP). There was an article in this catalog about a young jewish boy getting turntables for his barmitzvah and then proceeding to win all sorts of scratch championships. I didn’t hear about him again until a few years later when I heard he did the beat and scratches for “Don’t Fool With the Dips” possibly still in my top 10 Dipset songs (7 of the first 9 are all Juelz Santana, you already know) . Classic Dipset quotables here include “miracoulous, accurate, aggregate savages”, “Tired of putting razors and drugs up by my asscrack… my shit is copyrighted now nigga ASCAP”, “I’ll school you how to sell the coca, because diplomat without the t spells diploma” etc. A-Trak’s Dirty South Dance one was amazing, and stayed in my workout rotation through college, and I even tried to throw on the “Stuntin Like My Daddy” and “Hustlin” remixes at various club gigs to little success (Arizona wasn’t ready in 2007). And obviously everything since then with Fools Gold and his remixes has been stellar material so I highly recommend picking up Dirty South Dance Two, below, for free download on BandCamp. http://atrak.bandcamp.com/album/dirty-south-dance-2 I also think its interesting to mention that both Mashups and electro-hip hop remixing are based in Southern hip hop, Hollertronix, Dirty South Dance etc… I’m starting to think Jay Electronica is right…
You sir! Yes you, I’m talking to you! Frequent partygoer! Do you like Dutch House? No? Oh you don’t know Dutch House, right! Do you like David Guetta? Have you ever pictured a room full of David Guetta’s making love to David Guetta? (Thanks Death to the Throne). You like David Guetta right? Sexy Bitch and those other songs yah? Well thanks to bastions of pop culture like Guetta and Jersey Shore you’re going to be listening to Dutch House all summer and probably into the fall at your pool parties and steamy nightclubs, and no this year the east coast doesn’t get a free pass like last year, you all gotta deal with it. What is that you ask? What am I getting at? Well I work for a campaign called Afrojack for President, see he’s from the Netherlands and he makes Ze Bangaz. Click to Download Lady Gaga-Alejandro (Afrojack Remix) Side Note Steve Aoki for Cabinet Member. The above deserves a listen all the way through because the second half takes it to another level.
