Love this video…. Borrows a lot of imagery from our Gravity video oddly enough, or similar influences at least.
We stopped buy the Tokion/Superheadz event at The New Museum the other week and it was popping to the point of uncomfortableness, a great sign for the brand! It reminded me to blog about some of the mods we’ve been experimenting with for the camera before we film the next few shows. Since I picked up the Superheadz Digital H2 (turntablelab.com has em on sale for 129 btw you should grab) we’ve been shooting all kinds of video with it. From strange viral reels to tour footage to everyday video, to scenic stock to full on music video it’s seen a ton of use. Our main problem has been its general uselessness for our tour footage being that some of these college houses we’re performing in are dark as hell and it does not perform well in low light or even semi-low light. We fixed this on stage with a truss and some par-cans but we decided we had to get some sort of lighting rig. Enter this Sima light set up for 40 bucks that hooks under the camera shoe and gives us not only a far sturdier carrying and shooting rig for the Digital Harinezumi but has a light that lasts twice as long without charging as the two hours of video we can shoot with the camera. Also the whole rig is easily tripod-mountable. The Digital H2 shoots very warm video, almost red at points, and when we tried some traditional photo warming films it didn’t work out as desired, but we did find success attaching par can gels to the entire outside of the holding rig as well as just the light to bathe the subject in blue and red light… Very cool footage coming out of the Digital H2 we can’t wait to show you guys! Now Playing- Amadou Et Mariam- Dakunt Edit
Alright, so finally got to studding and spiking today. For a heterosexual male who wore mostly boardshorts and LRG throughout my formative years I think they came out okay… I highly recommend studsandspikes.com for your own DIY excitement. Laced a pair of Converse, a pair of PF Flyers and a pair of Supras to start, last pair is going to be a canvas pair I cover completely and make all Balenciaga… At the end of the day this whole experience cost about $25 dollars, saved some shoes that might not have otherwise made it, and left me with pleasant memories in the form on a large gash on one of my fingers. My work here is done. Currently Playing: Robyn- Dancehall Queen
Okay, Saturday night and taking a break from assembling the DIY spring wardrobe (studs and spikes and light cloaks and birds in suit pockets yessss) for tour next week to update on you on the amazing audio/visual combination of Mia Moretti & Caitlin Moe. I had the pleasure of seeing these two perform the violin/deejay bit briefly at The Eldridge awhile back and hearing people talk about them from Sundance to SXSW to WMC and beyond. Men watch out these girls are beautiful, talented and their swagger might eat you alive. We love us some DJ M2 over here… He made the Groove Candy experience in AZ what it is, and he’s always been super precise in the mix no matter when or where we’ve seen him. He’s shown Silver Medallion non stop love and we want to return the favor. So if you’re in the mood for some hip hop (you know there’s that moment where you just wanna throw on the hoody and pop in the earbuds and go…) grab his latest mixtape with marketing powerhouse Cornerstone. Photo includes clothes by an AZ brand Dearly Departed that’s been on the SUPER hustle this last year. We see you! Click Here To Download! Show M2 some love and tweet this!
I couldn’t find a video that does justice to what this man does as a hype man for Switch/Major Lazer. This picture will suffice. Rumour has it the Best Buy/Interscope party got uncomfortable for a lot of people when he proceeded to engage in similar actions… DJ’s, please begin hiring hype men that look/act like Skerrit Bwoy or various other ethnic counterparts if at all possible
Besides being one of the nicest dudes I’ve had the pleasure of meeting, and being super-fresh (one of the first I saw to rock the tail back in the day), Hollywood Holt has been killing it… Blew away the IHeartComix showcase at sxsw, buzz everywhere, all the tracks I’ve heard off the new album are hella bass heavy and fresh, i dig it all around. Like the Cool Kids, but not wack… Anyway, some pics and videos of his shows below (yes that’s Bill Murray), and my fav Hollywood song from back in the day. Personality can turn a live show into something fantastic… You can download Hollywood Holt- Caked Up (Klever Remix) here. I still play this when I’m djing and get shwasted enough to play my jams… This one gets me in the zone. At burger king we cut the line.
The other week…
