We spent the last two days cleaning the house. That prime old town spot, right by the club, it made life easy and amazing. Luckily at this point in our lives we don’t own much, and we can fit it all into a couple suitcases. I leave tomorrow am and Carnegie leaves Tuesday (after djing Crave Monday), and then we take the first weekend at Syracuse and Lafeyette. I’ve been setting up facebook events, sending out flyers for print, getting more merch, maquesting, getting sound right etc etc all week amidst the moving and it looks ready to go… It feels good to look back on AZ. We’re craving a lot of things as artists right now, action, a sense of definition in our plan, a community of other business oriented creatives. I hope we can find those things on the road and not have to look back. We’ve performed at all these clubs so many times, gone through our days without the necessary motivation… This tour should prove to be the jumpstart we need. Luckily everything is closed up here, mixtape is recorded, house is cleared out, shows are done. Let’s get it in!
Another week gone, and we’re preparing to go on tour and shoot some videos of our own with our new Digital Harinezumi… This first video is like an 80′s small town feel good movie reduced to 3 minutes, which we wish some of said 80′s small town feel good movies had been reduced to… Theophilus London- Humdrum Town http://videos.onsmash.com/v/pJTzs38DFDGlHyyq Everything about this is so wrong, tacky concept, tacky lyrics, tacky visuals, but this video is great, this song is amazing, the bridge is outrageous, hook is infectious… Shortie’s been my fav UK rapper in recent memory since I hard his project when it dropped back in July, and I can’t wait to see what he does next… Master Shortie- Bringin It Back Only stumbled upon this because I share the same first name as this singer… Stunning stop/motion video. Oren Lavie- And She Fights For Her Life http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=2_HXUhShhmY&feature=player_embedded Alright so apparently the logic behind the following is if you get an extremely large budget, and proceed to spend that budget on wrecking cars, a Mack truck and several not-so scantily clad women, that you’re still going to have a better video than most previous house music videos… This is my personal favorite song off the latest Calvin Harris effort, pardon the video (unless your a 13 year old male whose computer has always had unhackable parental controls on it, in which case sashay away) Calvin Harris- You Use To Hold Me http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=jRKsxAsQgAk&feature=player_embedded
There was once a point in time when popular culture didn’t solely revolve around Call of Duty, plastic surgery, and LMFAO. In those enlightening days, it was hot to quest for knowledge, and one of the only means by which to do so was reading. So to honor Johan Gutenberg for inventing the printing press and ultimately keeping Western civilization out of a perpetually feudalistic state, I urge you to read a book. Here are a few suggestions: If you are: 15 and brooding or you have yet to reach your maturity peak as a human, OR like Allen Ginsberg, LSD, Easy Rider… You should read: The Perks of Being a Wallflower by Stephen Chbosky —– If you like: Reckless womanizing to cover up your homoeroticism, pretending to enjoy what Glenn Beck has to say, men You should read: When I Knew by Robert Trachtenberg —– If you like: Obedience, khaki, Socialism You should read: The Communist Manifesto by Karl Marx and Friedrich Engels —– If you are: White, gentrified African American, or obnoxiously ironic… You should read: Stuff White People Like by Christian Lander —– If you like: Yachts, tennis whites, cocaine, insider trading OR are an extreme narcissist or minor sociopath… You should read: The Informers by Bret Easton Ellis —– If you are: a head bitch in charge, a humanist, and have hope that mankind can change its nature and fix itself before it’s too late… You should read: Middlemarch by George Eliot —– Other recommendations: If you like: War stories, Faulkner, weeping Read: The Things They Carried by Tim O’Brien If you like: Exposing embarrassing family secrets, hilariously sarcastic humiliation Read: When You Are Engulfed in Flames by David Sedaris If you are: Boring, pretending to be interesting Read: Anna Karenina by Leo Tolstoy If you like: Mixed media, Adderall, anything beautiful, Judaism Read: Extremely Loud and Incredibly Close by Jonathan Safran Foer —– Moral: the more you read or at least pretend to read, the more interesting people will think you are. The only exception to this rule is anything by Dan Brown or that bitch ...
From Metromix Phoenix Vernon Parker Fundraiser By Megan Finnerty, Metromix This Sunday afternoon’s house party with Paradise Valley Mayor Vernon Parker is not typically the kind of event Desert Living editor David Tyda attends. “I tend not to get invited to political parties because I don’t have enough money,” said Tyda, who runs the popular foodie blog EaterAZ.com. But the registered Independent is attending the football-viewing, fundraising event for Republican Parker because he’s looking to schmooze with the crowd: a mix of under-35 restaurateurs, nightlife entrepreneurs, social scenesters and bloggers. Parker public-relations guru Jason Rose will host the afternoon party at his 7,500-square-foot Paradise Valley home. The goal is to raise money for Parker’s run for the congressional seat Rep. John Shadegg will be vacating. The party has been promoted for weeks via Twitter and on the gossip blog page602.com, run by Melissa Rein, who does contract work for Rose and runs her own PR company. Parker will grill burgers and hot dogs, guests will play croquet, and electronic hip-hop duo Silver Medallion, who typically draw college crowds to Scottsdale clubs, will spin a mix of indie rock, light hip-hop and oldies. Parker hopes to hear KC and the Sunshine Band. More than 260 people have RSVP’d—from young conservative political groups, including Young Republicans and Politics on the Rocks, and philanthropic organizations such as Las Palomas to civic leaders from the Animal Welfare League and Phoenix Children’s Museum. But also on the RSVP list is Nik Richie, who runs the salacious gossip blog thedirty.com. After guests valet their cars on the 2.25-acre property, they’ll be asked for a $5 donation to Parker’s campaign. Political experts say parties like this, while uncommon in Arizona, are typical throughout the rest of the country as a way to get young people energized about politics. Andrew Koneschusky, vice president of the public-affairs firm Levick Strategic Communications in Washington, D.C., said candidates often host fundraisers in unexpected places like nightclubs and restaurants. “Those events are a dual purpose, typically,” Koneschusky said. “They do raise money, but not a lot of it. Typically it’s really to ...

Anyone remember The Plant Life? I was too into indie hip hop for my own good a few years back, so my memories of Jack Splash stem to the first times I heard him and then me buying the physical CD of Plant Life’s The Return of Jack Splash from Hoodlums in Arizona… He’s been around for way too long to warrant “Kids on the Climb”, but now Jack Splash is the proverbial ish, killing em on the beats, making tracks with Missy Elliot, Jamie Foxx, Cee-Lo, signed to J-Records and the whole deal. No to mention producing a Top 10 hit for Alicia Keys and just pretty much being everywhere… We’ll see how successful the album is, the man has far less facebook and myspace than Silver Medallion, which is shocking for a major label act in this era where they can wave a proverbial programming wand and handle these kinds of things… But I’ll be checking for the beats regardless. DJ Skee and our boy have dropped a mixtape King of the Beats, get a free download of the whole joint by clicking here.
I’ve been saying I’m going to write about The Big Pink for a while now… I first heard their single Dominoes a long while back on Kanye West’s (still amazing) blog and I grabbed up the album. I ended up not really liking it on first listen and discarding it except for about three songs, then I’ve been forced many times to revisit it until now I’m quite a fan. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OGnNlQ-KNv4 http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=OK8oOj0wKCs I remember being in Venice Beach with TheLifeofBill and posse, drinking Arrogant Bastard at a crowded bar and Dominoes came on and I was like “I have to revisit this album”. A few weeks later The Kid sent it over again as a recommendation for music to write about on here. Now a few months go by and I hear a rather insane Switch remix of the track and I felt the time was right to post. NY, Switch (half of Major Lazer, main producer of Kala, and a legend before those projects) is at Webster Hall spinning this Friday, and it’s $1 if you get to it on going.com. Getting together a posse to go down there, hope you can join! Click to Download The Big Pink-Dominoes (Switch Remix) Click to Visit The Big Pink on MySpace
