Smash.
I didn’t post a few of these because they’re pretty mediocre, but there’s a 12 year old boy in me that will geek out over Star Wars related pop gear no matter what… ADIDAS VS STAR WARS. Somewhere my older brother is feeling the abstract need to play a Journey/Run DMC maship and he doesn’t know why… Peep! Adidas also has made a comprehensive facebook based marketing initiative for the sneaks, which is a great example of the power of web 2.0 marketing. http://www.adidas.com/campaigns/deathstar/content/Default.aspx?cc=us&site=adidasus And speaking of being of 12, there’s an amazing Lady Gaga vs. Ace of Base mashup I stumbled upon that made my ears bleed in pop pain. Alejandro vs. Don’t Turn Around (right or option click to download)
This party will be amazing… More talent than you can shake a stick at.
I’d sell it myself, but Haute Living has already done a great job for me… “Should Auld Acquaintances be Forgot, Invite Them to Dinner Maybe you’d like to go out but don’t want to deal with the hassle of the crowds. The Hotel On Rivington will let you and your twenty closest friends celebrate in its private dining rooms. The $15,000 price tag includes five hours of open bar, an additional five bottles of vodka, and five bottles of Cristal champagne for the table. You can also venture to the Penthouse on the twentieth floor to mingle with the regular partygoers and take in what many have deemed the best view in the city. The hotel’s Levant East restaurant will also serve dinner and tailor the menu to your party’s preferences.” If you’re in NY, buck up the cost (my recommendation, get the Penthouse VIP ticket, which gives you access to Levant and Penthouse, and then murk the open bar until 2am) and join Josh Madden, members of Cobra Starship, The Chainsmokers (some of my personal NY DJ favs) and more at the Rivington, including hipster legend Roxy Cottontail. Unless of course you’re balling out in which case that 15k table package is a necessity. The getyourswagup.com design team put together the event invitation for the evening, which you can preview below!
MIA and MGMT in GQ was just a precursor of bigger and better things… The gap between music and fashion has been closing faster and faster with the gowing prevalence of viral marketing in the music industry exposing the fan to a way more in depth look at their favorite rockers lifestyle and image… Some of GYSU’s fav groups MGMT, The Horrors, Chester French, Mika and more get the high class redux for an upcoming Vogue.

Everyone been talking about Kid Cudi’s new HBO series, where he stars in an Entourage-esque new Wahlberg production called “How to Make it In America”. We’ve snatched up the new trailer just for you guys! How to Make It in America: Teaser Trailer from DP on Vimeo.
Ahhhh… I have some prejudices against mashups that have prevented me from enjoying lots of music in my life. I relate it to the intense dislike I had for fish for years until recently I went to Dew Drop Inn in downtown Honolulu and had the sweet and sour fish filets and my whole life changed. Such was the feeling when on a sporadic Hype Machine browsing moment I said “To hell with it, I’ma download 3 volumes of Hood Internet mixtapes”. The Hood Internet is a Chicago based mashup outfit that pairs hip hop and indie rock together in Ableton induced madness. Their best known for their amazing mashup of Grizzly Bear and Dead Prez. Sifting through these mixtapes I found about a dozen outstanding tracks, and I also found myself geeking out on music I hadn’t heard in forever mixed with Ghostface Killah or Clipse or whatever struck my interest… Great listening experience all around… All the mixtapes can be downloaded below! http://drop.io/hoodinternetmixtapes
Alright… And here we have a Lord of the Rings inspired LaChapelle shoot for Lady Gaga featuring Kanye West (with appropriate biblical overtones). This is included in the deluxe edition of Fame/Monster… I’m not even sure what to say about this except airbrushing has come a long way and if this is her attempt to replicate Madonna’s implications of sex with black jesus then she needs to go harder. Speaking of going harder… Rihanna’s new video is very fresh, especially the 2:30 scene with the pink tank and the mickey mouse ear army helmet. A much more fashionable use of the tank than Pharrell’s embarrassing and terrible “tank chair” (celebrities, high design is not for you, Kanye West only got away with it because he chose the Bud Light of high fashion design to work with (yes I just used beer as my fashion chart comparison, notice he’s not doing shoes for Lanvin). And yes, Dolce and Gabana would be the Heinekin. If you have an extensive Louis Vuitton collection and we’re offended by my above suggestion in regards to your taste you can feel better than your income is much higher than mine and then you can feel worse that you spend the difference on design that makes people like me feel that I’m better than you. But I digress… What’s happening with Rihanna? Fourth quarter is when the music industry shuts down and goes to the heavy hitters, IE RIhanna. First they dropped Russian Roulette, arguably one of the worst singles I’ve heard all year (Miley Cyrus is eating you Rihanna). Then they drop Hard, which is in my opinion an amazing track. Even Jeezy’s decent on it (rather would have heard almost anyone else honestly, but it’s like an afterthought, he comes on after 3 minutes). The video’s super hot as far as trashy major label videos of starlets writhing in mud go (I think Kanye’s Flashing Lights videos opened lots of doors, just sayin), but for some reason this song just can’t go right. It’s not in major radio rotation the way you’d imagine, it doesn’t ...
