“VAMPIRES ….TO THE FUTURE JUST FORGET YOUR PAST” I figured this would be a good day to blog about bloody lamps, no English slang or pun intended. Artist Michael Thompson has a few ideas that are not for the squeamish or faint at heart….. i’m thinking about making some of these myself, as we can sell them as Silver Medallion merch….”Its the right time… we’re headed to the neon lights”…. If Count Dracula needed a flashlight, he certainly would grab one of these things. Scenario designer, and seemingly a junior sociologist, Mike Thompson has documented an environmental and social experiment to measure the value of generated power. The idea behind Mike’s creation is to bring some added value and realization to an individual in terms of wasted energy. He states that the average American consumes about 3383kwh of energy per year. That is equal to leaving a light on in four rooms for a full year. It is the luxury and ignorance of being able to flick a switch and “produce” light that makes us ultimately waste energy. In doing this we do not give a single thought to how this is effecting the environment, nor do we consider the method(s) it may take to give us this light. To put a bit more emphasis and realization on the entire process Mike has created the Blood Lamp. For the lamp to produce light one must break off the top of the lamp, dissolve a tablet in the solution and use their blood to power the light. This creates a lamp that can only be used once and forces the user to consider the most important time that they need the light. It forces them to be more considerate and reflect of how wasteful we are with energy on a daily basis. There is also a deep metaphor in this as well where the blood in our bodies represents life and the energy we use everyday effects the world we live in somehow someway, thus effecting our quality of life. See, everything is cyclical. Check out Mike’s very interesting portfolio of ...
Never wrote up Tucson’s event, let’s just say it was wild. The promoter’s were a small town gang who were unprepared to say the least, there were kids scaling fences around the venue and rumor has it the box office got bum-rushed. There were no lights on the soccer field we were performing at at all so a ghetto bird was circling above with the spotlight the whole time, really setting the mood. The show was packed though, probably 3500 kids. Security got pelted with ice until they were forced offstage at one point and it was general hedonism. Luckily we had a Party Bus filled with goodies and we just stayed in there with the various members of the Tucson strip club community until we went on. We tore the show down, they LOVED us, we hopped into the crowd and all that. We got so much love from the show that the requests the next day on radio have gotten us radio love in Tucson. Chris Young went on after and I’ll never take away from his rapping skills but he had no right being on a show like that, people just left the stage area. Kelly James was after him and they did pretty well, but again, another band that was a real awkward fit for a show like this. I liked their set personally, mostly covers but it was hot and they’re talented. It was a show that should have been Silver Medallion/LMFAO and that’s the end plain and simple, but politics are politics. Anyway we chopped it with them, always cool guys, did two radio interviews, party bussed to our afterparty at Pearl (YAKKIN), I hopped on the mic for a minute, and then we went down to Centro for the supposed official afterparty and of course LMFAO wasn’t there so we ate at the hipster diner and our driver took us home. We return to Tucson on the 11th with Mickey Avalon at DV8, should be a great time, we do Martini Ranch with Mickey the night before, probably gonna have the afterparty down ...
I had made the decision ages ago, but the sky was so clear, the air so crisp, and the truth so evident; today would be the day. Penning my goodbyes, and stepping to the to the edge, i prepared myself for the sweet release that awaited… Then a voice, unlike any i had ever heard, began to harmonize with the rhythms of my troubled heart. Too cold to be that of God, and too hollow to be the Devil’s, the words drew me away from what was to be with curiosity… It said, “Trans. Europe. Express.” KRAFTWERK (REMASTERED) BOX SET COMMING SOON!!! On November 17th, 2009 you can get your hands on 8 of Kraftwerks most influential albums, remastered with todays best technology, in one slick-as-shit box set! If you already have all the Kraftwerk albums (which you should) then you know that they are of a pretty low audio quality and don’t thump nearly as loud as the tracks by thousands of artists who have ripped off/sampled them over the past 35 years. I know my little narrative in the beginning of this post was a bit dramatic but if you are a DJ, electronic music lover, or robot, then you have been waiting for this day for a long time… especially if you are a robot (like me). The albums in the box set include all their releases on the Capitol, Warner Brothers and Astralwerks labels: Autobahn Radio-Activity Trans Europe Express The Man Machine Computer World Techno Pop The Mix & Tour De France Unfortunately Electric Cafe is not on that list of remastered albums, so to get your ship rockin’ here is the Side 1, Track 1 (with one of the best song names ever) off that classic record: Kraftwerk – Boing Boom Tschak

If you, like most of us, are without a personal utopia in which you can escape the outside world of business meetings, crazy ex-girlfriends, and bedlam, then you need to stop settling for your mundane taupes and eggshells and whatever your mom got you from the Pottery Barn and find inspiration elsewhere. 1.) Gilt Mirror by François-Honoré-Georges Jacob-Desmalter; yes he died in the 1840s, but his Neoclassical influence still lives on. It may be a little gaudy, but everyone likes to gaze at themselves in something shiny and foreign. If you like: Versailles, The Metamorphoses, (Ovid, not Kafka, don’t get it twisted) Harry Potter. 2.) Fully Loaded Chair by Alexander Reh. Reh is the kind of edgy chic that might make your more liberal guests really uncomfortable if they don’t understand irony. Made of 12-gauge shotgun shells and steel, this chair will give you a sense of security, even if you don’t want it to. If you like: Sustainability, irony, Dadaism, guns. 3.) W+W (Washbasin+Water Closet) by Gabriel & Oscar Buratti for Roca. I mean, who doesn’t want an innovative and Swedish-inspired toilet/sink combination in their bathroom? If you like: The Michael Jackson “Scream” video, jetpacks, Ikea. 4.) Vintage ashtrays, A|W 2009/2010 scarves by Hermès. For all of you bosses out there who like to indulge yourselves in a fine cigar (or whatever else),your days of ashing into a Dixie cup filled with acrid Keystone Light are over; it’s time to grow up. If you like: Pleasing your woman, France, the upper class. 5.) Cardboard Office by Miwa Takabayashi. Miwa’s creations are essentially taken from your childhood architectural dreams and made real; you may not be able to construct your office space completely out of cardboard, but I really encourage you to try. If you like: Tokyo Godfathers, forts, climbing things, recycling. 6.) Tree Bed/Tree Rail by Shawn Lovell A good way to incorporate your Lord of the Rings poster into your new decor is to drop the 15 stacks it costs for one of Lovell’s pieces and live your downtime as if you were in Rivendell; Middle Earth is ...

There was a point in time where I used Holga and Lomo and got really into shoegazer and my summer job was a teaching assistant in a photo lab mixing chemicals. Those times are long gone, as is my Lomo Supersampler, but the revolution is now on video… Digital video. If you don’t know what I’m talking about, I’m waxing poetic on analog lo-fi purposely off-kilter photography and now videography. This piece makes me want to quit everything I do and shoot bad films with beautiful tattooed women for the rest of my 20′s. This camera is digital. It holds up to two hours of video. It has night and day ISO settings. It’s less than two hundred dollars. silla-viento-peces from nick dangerfield on Vimeo. Buy at Turntablelab.com
